Our History
In 2014, the launch team for BVCC came together, consisting of Pastor Marsay & Isha Winder, Ade & Shonda Brayboy, and Randall & Kimberly Crowder. This dedicated group set the stage for the church's beginnings. On November 4, 2014, BVCC held its first church service at Kecoughtan High School. This marked a significant milestone in the community's journey. BVCC welcomed its first members by January 2015, including William Lassiter, Antoine Snead & Tina Harvey. Their involvement helped establish a strong foundation for the church. In May 2015, BVCC organized its first free community car wash at O’Reilly Auto Parts on Mercury Blvd in Hampton, VA. This event showcased the church's commitment to serving the local community. BVCC moved to its first permanent location in October 2015 at 129 Franklin St., Hampton, VA. This transition allowed the church to grow and better serve its congregation. The church celebrated its first baby dedication in December 2015, honoring Tasianna Marie Jenkins and marking a special moment in the lives of church families.
In December 2016, BVCC relocated to its current location at 2171 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA, providing a more spacious environment for worship and community activities. January 2017 marked another milestone with BVCC's first baptism service held at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hampton, VA. This event was a significant moment for many in the congregation. In November 2017, Pastor Marsay was officially appointed as the lead pastor of BVCC by Rev. Walter Dean at Ebenezer Baptist Church, further solidifying his leadership role. In July 2018, the church ordained its first deacons, Craig and Carolyn Powers, recognizing their commitment and service to the church community. December 2018 saw the introduction of a new BVCC logo, reflecting the church's evolving identity and mission. May 2019 was significant as BVCC hosted its first "Month of Service," partnering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the Peninsula Food Bank, Cooper Elementary, and Menchville House to make a positive impact in the community. Additionally, the church held its first annual family cookout at Bethel Park.
As the world faced challenges in April 2020, BVCC adapted by hosting its first virtual service, ensuring that members could still connect and worship together. This tool still allows us to grow together while dually meeting in person. In July 2020, BVCC introduced its first parking lot worship service, allowing congregants to gather safely while adhering to health guidelines. In September 2021, BVCC returned to in-person services, welcoming the congregation back to a shared worship experience. BVCC celebrated the ordination of its first minister, Shawna Jenkins, in July 2022, marking a significant step in the church's ministry development. April 2023 brought the ordination of Randall Crowder as Executive Pastor, further enhancing the church's leadership team. In September 2024, BVCC celebrated its first baptism, symbolizing growth and commitment within the congregation. Finally, today, November 3, 2024, BVCC commemorates its 10-year anniversary with a special celebration, here at Hampton High School Auditorium, reflecting on a decade of faith, discipleship, and community impact.
